Out with the old, in with the vintage
Blink and you might miss a new treasure of a shop, based at Drove Orchards on the north Norfolk coast.
Vintage Home and Garden is Thornham’s best kept secret – filled with tempting (and useful) delights for the home and garden all sourced to reflect the current season. The shop’s location means that while stocking up seasonal produce at the farm shop, customers can be tempted by anything from jewelled ribbons and buttons, cushions and linens for the home, to Victorian glass floats and vintage lobster pots for the garden. And now it’s autumn the shop stocks richly-scented candles and is decorated with the orchard’s own foliage and apples – expect to see further cosy lines in winter such as vintage blankets and hurricane lanterns to beat off those wintry winds.
Jo Griffiths is the enthusiastic owner of this new shop which champions coastal living (think vintage pond yachts and traditional games such as Seaside Snakes and Ladders) and everything in between. The shop itself is based in a beautiful wooden shed which dates right back to World War I, reflecting Jo’s ethos of reusing, taking inspiration from the past and bringing it right up to date.
The shop is a real labour of love for Jo who has already received great feedback from local and visiting shoppers. As Jo says, "People love the quirky, beautiful but affordable vintage products and are always surprised by what they find – it’s a real gem of a shop and people enjoy being inspired by what they see, we include natural elements into our displays so your home can be beautiful, seasonal and have a practical element too."
The new shop is open every day apart from Thursdays from 10am to 4pm, and Jo urges anyone who is looking for unusual gifts for the home, garden or the difficult to buy for to pop in for a browse and discover this wonderful store.
