HMS THORNHAM
was one of 93 ships of the
ham- class of inshore minesweepers. Their names were all chosen
from villages ending in - ham. The minesweeper was named after Thornham
in Norfolk She was converted in 1967 at Rosyth Dockyard for use by
the Aberdeen University Naval Unit. HMS Thornham gave its ship's
bell to Thornham Church in 1969, and it is rung each year to signal the
two minutes silence on remembrance Sunday.
