HOME PAGE

HMS THORNHAM  was one of 93 ships of the ham- class of inshore minesweepers.  Their names were all chosen from villages ending in - ham. The minesweeper was named after Thornham in Norfolk  She was converted in 1967 at Rosyth Dockyard for use by the Aberdeen University Naval Unit.  HMS Thornham gave its ship's bell to Thornham Church in 1969, and it is rung each year to signal the two minutes silence on remembrance Sunday.
